The “group” option is an extra category, which you can set to almost any purpose (usually something specific to your industry or situation). You don’t have to use “group” if you don’t want to.
For the sake of example, you might want to use it to identify assets which are:
- Parts of a larger asset. For example, a number of machines joined together in a production line. You could create groups such as “Line 1”, “Line 2”, etc.
- Powered in a specific way. For example, “Petrol”, “Diesel”, “Electric”.
- Governed by a specific department within your company, for example, “Dept 1”, “Dept 2”.
Note – each asset can only belong to one “group”.
